“18 year old, built in 7 days, $100k revenue”, stop the nonsense
I've noticed something lately.
Everyone’s flexing their MRR
“$10k in 30 days,”
“$1M in 3 months,”
“bootstrapped SaaS now making $100k/month.”
and for a while, I believed it. I thought I was just behind.
But the more I looked, the more I realized, most of it’s either exaggerated, cherry-picked, or just fake.
These stories sound cool on Twitter, but they’re outliers at best, and fiction at worst.
Every other project popping up is an "AI-powered" SaaS, a chatbot, or yet another curated directory nobody asked for. And you know what? Most of these projects won't be around six months from now.
BoltApps or lovable will build you a slick, polished app in no time, but once it’s ready they vanish. You get zero launch guidance no marketing plan, no App Store tips, no idea how to actually get users. It’s like handing you a shiny new car and watching you drive off blind.
When it’s time to sell and distribute your app, you’re totally on your own.
We've seen this exact hype before. It happened with crypto, NFTs, dropshipping, and now AI. Different labels, but the same flawed promises. And, unfortunately, many founders get caught chasing quick wins instead of solving real problems.
I've been working as a data scientist for the past 5 years building ai solutions for the big tech. But last year I launched a twitter growth app(tweetly) failed miserably. Talked to some successfully people they asked me a bunch of distribution questions "How are you selling?", "Whats the target market(ICP)?", "Have you any free resources to grab attention?"... I couldnt answer any of them properly. Yes you can get a descent MRR in 6 months with proper distribution experience that's not impossible but my point is that its not as common as they show you on socials.
If you're not getting results keep building try a different route just keep going, dont stop seeing socials seeing these claims. Recent lovable $200 M fundraise looks amazing but no one talks about founders last 7 years grinding.
it's tempting to jump on the latest trend. But if your primary motivation is just to "get rich quick," you'll burn out quickly. Entrepreneurship doesn't work like that.
If you're serious about building something lasting, here's my advice:
- Step back and think deeply about real problems you understand better than most(founder market fit).
- Reflect on your unique skills, experiences, and expertise.
Consider if the thing you're building genuinely needs to exist or are you just building for building's sake?
The real path to entrepreneurial success isn't flashy AI tools or viral threads promising overnight results. It's slow, intentional, and often quiet work. Its developing actual expertise, understanding customers and creating genuine value before monetization even crosses your mind.
So, ask yourself honestly:
What am I truly good at?
What problems do I deeply understand and care about?
Can I pick myself up and be determined after I fail?
How can I develop skills that genuinely set me apart?
Stop building just to build. Start building something meaningful you want for yourself.
And if your real purpose is to make money, spend less time chasing coding tutorials and more time learning sales, communication, and business fundamentals.
That's how real businesses are built.
